think they deserve it?
If they were stupid, vain, callous and corrupt to squander their money on cigarettes, alcohol and drugs and also unnecessary designer cosmetics, fragrances, clothes out of their budget then I understand that it's their fault.
However if there is other reasons you think they got themselves into their own poverty and deserve it then please explain in full detail if you're going to have the nerves to say they deserve it!
A lot of poor or homeless people are war veterans. They lose body parts or suffer from mental illnesses during times of war and it prevents them from getting jobs and functioning in society. They are out of a job and are soon out of money and may not qualify for benefits from the government. No money and they can't afford to keep their house or rent an apartment and are forced to live on the streets. That's not their fault.

I one foolishly spends more money than they have, then yes, they were indeed stupid. The we have Banks who were stupid enough to loan money to people who had no job and no home so they could buy a home. AIG is a prime example. They knew they were buying worthless paper, yet, our Esteemed 'Decider' decided We had to bailout AIG and others like them who backed worthless paper.
I was against the Bailout of Wall Street. This is why I voted against McCain and Obama last Month.

Many people are poor through little or no fault of their own.
However some people are "borderline" cases. Such people who could easily have gotten out of poverty if they'd made "wise" choices; except for the fact they have never really learned to be "wise". So yes, it's their fault, but not out of egregious IGNORANCE.
As for people who are downright IGNORANT when it comes to getting themselves into poverty – yes, what you say are examples. Buying things they cannot afford. Getting into debt can be another.
However there's one other way people get themselves into poverty which is rarely considered "foolish"… but it IS. And that's HAVING CHILDREN. That is to say having children they cannot AFFORD. It's a strange attitude our society has – as if having children went without saying and was a RIGHT everyone has.
Well, some people need to face the facts they're either not in a financial, emotional or life situation to have many (or any) children.
What's sad about those who have kids who cannot afford them is they're bringing new lives into the mess they're creating, too.
