what did she mean!?!?

ok, I went to a job interview it only lasted about 2 minutes. she looked at the hrs. I put down + asked why on fridays and mondays i couldn't work after 6 and told her because i have to sing at church. and she said she was going to forward my application to the cosmetics department manager so she could see what hrs. she has to fit my schedule and that the cosmetics manager was going to call me. The only question she asked was what brings you to macys, and i told her that I was looking for a holiday job which I'd like it to end up being permanent and I was interested in the cosmetic and womens fragrance dept. then she started asking me about the hrs. and everything that i said before. what do think she was trying to tell me, will she really call me, will she give me the job and she's looking for the right shift appropriate for me, do you think I'll get the job? Please only sincere answers, Thanks.

I hate to break it to you but you probably did not get the job. The holidays are a hectic time at retail stores and they need employees who are willing to work the hours they need them to work, not what is convenient for you. Sorry, but thats the reality.

  5. Any answer we give is pure speculation because we don't know this person and weren't present at the interview. I think it's legitimate that she would forward your application to the department manager to see whether they can work with your hours. Just relax and either you'll get a call or you won't.

  7. Hours restrictions are always tricky, especially on a friday night. Those are big shopping times, so restricting your schedule to 6pm will likely mean you won't get this job. At the holidays there are way to many applicants that are willing to work whatever hours they are given, you are limiting your possibilities.

honestly she may not pick you because of the hours you told her. around five thirty to sixish is the most active times at macys in my state bcuz of rush hour and everyone gets home

  13. it means she is worried about conflict in hours in a prime shopping time Fridays after work hours are prime time for the mall and weekends.

  14. Most retail companies are looking for people but one of their busiest days are Friday and Saturday. It sounds like she can't offer you a job because her department is needing someone the days you can't work and she is going to give your application to the other department. If you don't hear back try calling the cosmetics department directly.

  15. I think they need someone there for the holidays which means all hours possible, I also think she was helping you by saying I will forward it… which I think she will. You gave a correct response about what brings you here, I just am wondering what they are looking for … GOOD LUCK i hope it all works out

I'm sorry to say this sweetey — problem is-church is a good thing BUT "business is business" and we're in "season" — they don't want to hire someone who has "restricted hours" no matter what good of an excuse you have. They don't know you, nor do they care about you….they want someone who will be available without restrictions.

well it doesn't really sound like a proper interview, esp if it only lasted 2 mins, seems she's just looking for anyone to fill the position. I don't think you'll get the call, and if you do do you really want to work for a company that couldn't be bothered to find out about potential employees?

And in future if you are asked why a particular company try telling them something good about the company that makes you want to work for them and NOT someone else, not cos you want some job that fits around your hours of availability. But good luck anyway:))

  20. I'm not going to tell you yes or no. Because i don't want you to be dissapointed if you don't get the job, or if i say no, i don't want you to think that you weren't even good enough for the job. Look, if you think you did a good job in the interview then you should be positive. I don't think that she would have asked you all those questions and then not hire you without a good reason. Don't worry about it. Only time will tell if you got the job. Good Luck!

You aren't going to get the job.

First of all, you told them you were looking for a job during the holidays that would be permanent after. You should be telling them that you think it's a great company with superior product, etc. Secondly, if you restrict your hours, you are less likely to get a full time job. Singing at church is nice and all, but you made it clear that church is more important to you than the work. And if it is, that's great – it's your life. But put yourself in the shoes of the employer… They want someone who is willing and available to work when THEY need it, not when YOU feel like it.

McDonalds caters to people who are only willing to work certain days and hours.

I think it was postive that they said the manager would contact you, they could have said " we don't have an opening to suit your hours" A helpful hint… If you do get the job work when they ask you to and sing later. Good Luck

My opinion is that your hour restrictions for Fridays will cause problems. The new hirees get the nights and weekends typically especially as a seasonal hire. You saying that off the bat you can't work one of their busiest times is a hinderous.

There is still a chance you may get hired. They may need someone that can work that does not include those times. But I have to ask were they the only times you said you could not work? Because if there were more then that they will figure you will be a hard scheduler and not hire you.

    Good luck!

  27. If I had been the recruiter,I would have asked the same questions because it costs the company money to train you. Also, are you going to use your experience to move on to another store?
Will you be loyal to Macy's one you're in a permenant position? (did I spell that correctly?)
During the Holidays,it's their biggest money maker
and they want to make sure they hire the right person for the job. I think you have a very good chance.

  28. Do you want the job? Go back and tell her that you are available 7 days a week from the time the store opens to when it closes. Tell them that you are available on call whenever the manager needs you. That's how you will get this job. Get the job first and then after about 3 weeks of being the star employee, always available and always counted on and then tell her if you can make time for singing in your church.
You've basically told her what she didn't want to hear.
